The Franz Josef Glacier Hotel is actually two properties, one with 2 accommodation wings, the other with 1, set a kilometre apart off State Highway 6 on the edge of the Westland World Heritage Park which encapsules the Franz Josef Glacier, close to Franz Josef village. On the outskirts of Franz Josef village the Douglas Wing houses 50 rooms and 2 suites, the Graham Wing 48 rooms. All rooms in the Douglas and Graham Wings have satellite television and in-house videos. All Douglas Wing rooms have mini bars and some are equipped for disabled guests. Just north of the village on 5 acres of landscaped grounds leading down to a river, The Mueller Wing has 47 rooms plus the luxurious Duke of Edinburgh Suite and conference facilities. The Mueller Wing has its own glow-worm walk nearby.

Rooms in all wings have colour television, radio, a direct-dial telephone, a hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. All wings offer superb mountain views. Guests are welcome to use all the hotel facilities of this 3.5 star property. These include a family-style bistro, an authentic Chinese restaurant and a brassiere restaurant featuring New Zealand cuisine. There are 3 house bars for guests and a public bar. Room service is available in restaurant hours. There are 2 spa pools and 3 guest laundries.

The hotel operates a tourist information and booking service for a wide range of local activities, which include glacier skiing, helicopter and ski plane flights, white water rafting and canoeing, hunting, trout and salmon fishing, and mountain climbing.
